Since 2005, our business has been running auctions using ebay For Charity. We have elected to donate 100% of the sales price to the charity we support, Operation Family Fund. Statistically ebay states that listings with charitable donations sell 4% higher and receive 14% more bids. We have seen a far greater percentage increase in sales price to the tune of 20% or more. We believe we are receiving higher bids because the entire sale price of our auctions is being donated which appears to encourage our customers to bid higher creating larger donations while our contribution remains the same.
A little background on ebay for charity: ebay first began offering charible donations through listings immediately after 9/11 as “Auction for America,” eBay’s giving program originally raised over $10 million through online charity auctions for organizations supporting the victims of the tragedy and their families.
In 2005, eBay for Charity – previously known as Giving Works – introduced its free donation policy as part of its efforts to raise money for the South Asian Tsunami relief. This was later replaced by its free credit policy in 2006 – so you do not pay fees on the portion of auction donated.
Following we were featured in a wonderful article by JoAnn McFarland on http://smallbiztrends.com Please read and share our story so that we may continue to grow charitable donations through ebay.
